LOST THOUGHTS: “LAX”

  • So they decided to let us have our cake and eat it too.  They couldn’t have stopped The Incident or they wouldn’t have gotten onto the Island at all.  So they show us both the Island unchanged and what would have happened to everyone had the plane not crashed.
  • Jacob’s Enemy (Esau) is the Smoke Monster, confirmed 100%.  Good to know, but you’d think Jacob would have said “Hey Ben, stop fraternizing with the Smoke Monster, he’s a bad guy.”
  • Jack’s dad’s body never got on the plane?  What about the empty casket they found in Season 1?  Where did Jacob get Christian’s body to play with?
  • Jacob seemed pretty fine for being dead.  Maybe this happens a lot?
  • Guitar case held an ankh, with a note inside it that says if Sayid dies then “we’re all in a lot of trouble.”  Sayid, really?  What happened to Walt being so important or any of the other people who have supernatural powers or freaking Desmond?  Maybe all of the O6 has to stay alive for some reason?
  • Sayid got baptized!  Asian guy knows kung fu!  Sayid did not survive the baptism?  I guess we’re all in a lot of trouble!
  • So, AltKate escapes, but with Claire in the taxi.   I guess she’ll always be responsible for Aaron…
  • The Others freak out when they hear Jacob is dead.  I guess they expect an invasion by “him”.
  • Esau wants to leave the Island?  Jacob had to die to make that happen?  If he’s not using Locke’s body and is just a copy, he’s just an apparition.  How does he expect to leave?
  • So Richard’s Others and the Other Others were just hanging out by the Four-toed Statue even though the 4 guys they sent in with guns never came out?
  • Is all this Alt2004 stuff going somewhere?  Is this what we should expect all season instead of flashforwards/sideways, etc?
  • Esau has come to free Jacob’s “slaves”, but kicks the crap out of Richard and carries him off saying he’s disappointed.  In what?
  • Sayid is back from the dead!  ZombieSayid!

Overall, I’d give this season premiere a “meh”.  All it did was confirm things we already guessed.  Remember when you couldn’t predict this show at all?  Ah, to be back in the first season…

The Asian guy was definitely Japanese — linguist confirmation. He may even have been in Last Samurai — he looked a lot like Ujio to me. =)

Seems like “It worked” means that we’re seeing flashbacks about how they managed to avoid crashing on that plane, but still wound up on the island after all in the present?

Was hoping to see Arnzt on the plane, but no luck. =( I thought it was a good mysterious sort of episode.

So, we have this Jacob Esau thing — is Jacob basically life and Esau basically death? In that case, we might guess that the original John Locke was Jacob’s champion, and Jacob is the one who healed him.
Perhaps all the healings on the island (including the temple Fountain of Youth) flow (flew) from Jacob. Which makes me think that Jacob’s death caused the water to change color (Ujio said in Japanese something like “what caused the water to do this?” when the hippie asked him about it) and destroyed (or delayed?) its healing powers. If it destroyed the powers, then maybe this Sayid didn’t really get healed, but is some sort of necromantic corpse possession.
If all the healings come from Jacob, then Esau causes most of the supernatural dying. Maybe the pregnancy failures originate from him — at any rate, it seems that this island is a prison for Esau.

    So confused…
Fake Locke said: He (Real Locke) was the only one who didn’t want to leave the island. But I thought Rose and Bernard didn’t want to leave either. ?

Why no Shannon? IMDB.com says Maggie Grace was in LAX: Pt 1 Did anyone see her?
When Sayid shot Ben, Was Ben brought to the temple? Which, if so, is that what made him evil?

OK….I THINK the others are freaked out my the smoke monster…if you noticed in the cave the one guy poured a ring of some sort of stuff and then stood in it and the smoke monster stopped…then knocked down the rocks that caused the dude to fall out of the ring of ‘stuff’. The others in the temple/camp were pouring ‘stuff’ that looked the same…so, my theory is they think the smoke monster is coming after them.

Also, I’m betting we’ll see a lot of the other dead and disappeared characters throughout the season. Claire didn’t end up being in it until right at the end, so I’m betting there’s a chance we’ll see Shannon, Michael, Walt and others later on…again, just my theory!

But over all….I’m still super confused!!!!!

Right, The Others are freaked out by the Smoke Monster TODAY, but I can’t remember how they acted every time before this. Ben SUMMONED the Smoke Monster after Alex died and no one seemed to think that was out of the ordinary.

I just realized that Dharmaville WAS inside the sonic fence meant to keep the Monster away. Still, I can’t recall Others encountering the Smoke Monster without looking it up…

When the other others found out that Jacob was dead one of the things they did to keep themselves safe was pour ash around the perimeter. I would imagine this is to protect against old smokey.
